During most humanitarian crises, local communities are usually the first responders. FYA’s humanitarian programmes have always centred on these actors, supporting them to meet their needs, recover from shocks and rebuild, reducing their vulnerability to future hazards in the process. By directly engaging with beneficiaries and collaborating with community-based organisations, FYA has gained acceptance and trust from the local stakeholders, and this has increased the impact of its response. FYA’s priority is always to stabilise a situation, ensure access to food, shelter and clean water, and ensure a transition from emergency aid to reconstruction and disaster risk reduction (DRR) initiatives.
When an emergency hits, we provide people with the assistance they need to survive – clean water, sanitation facilities, food, health and nutrition advice and shelter.
